Jujuy!
Yesterday after a rocky departure from the homestay (never did them in the past and never will again) I met Amanda and Nic and we boarded a bus for Jujuy. After a little while a movie came on, called "Ghost," clearly an oversight at the Oscars the year it came out, about a mail order bride-slash-kung fu master who has to avenge the murder of her adopted father, the head of an elite fighting team who had saved her as an abandoned baby and raised her to be a killing machine. She also befriends a legless wheelchair-bound ex-special forces military guy on the streets of Chinatown and together they defeat a band of robbers. We were riveted. Then we had a break, and back on the bus I taught Nic and Amanda how to knit. Here I am, spreading the joys of woolen accessories across Argentina, and the next movie comes on, even better than the first. "Hardware," starring Dylan McDermott as a rebel with prosthetic parts, is a futuristic soft-core porn flick with robots, diiiirty language, lots of violence and drugs, you know, your average child-friendly film very appropriate for the 8 kids on the bus. (The kid next to us was watching the wheelchair guy do karate and kept saying "Look Mom! He's so little!") The last movie (We were rooting for Ghost 2!) called "Full Disclosure," started with a gay love scene and we were just dying to see what it would turn into, but in fact it just wound up being a sort of thriller, with a hitwoman torturing the main guy and him falling in love with the rebel terrorist... All in all quite entertaining. Then we slept til 5:30 when were were woken up and had to change buses for the remaining hour into Jujuy. We got in around 6:30 this morning, found a place for coffee and got a room, wandered around a bit to stretch our legs and later today plan on heading to the thermal baths. It is really sort of run down and small, this town, but the surrounding areas appear to be beautiful so I will be putting up photos and keeping updated soon, in the meantime next time you can't decide on a video, now you have three wonderful options.
