Feliz Año Nuevo!!!
Here we are, warming up for the midnight bell. Cecilia and Maria Eugenia, her daughter. Celilia is our landlady and just about the nicest person you could hope to know. She has been so helpful and kind during our stay, we are really lucky she's our landlady!!! Maria Eugenia and I practice spanish and english when I stay for dinner some nights after class with her dad.
Luis, Celilia's husband and my student!!! He and I are reading through the Toyota training manual and translating it from spanish to english in letter form. Example: Dear Mr. ___ here are some things to consider when choosing an engine oil... It's great because I am learning all about cars and how they work, he is learning english, then I go home to Levi and tell him all about what I learned and he confirms that yes, it is true, you DO want that type of oil for your engine or whatever. We all had some good laughs about that on New Year's!!!
The dessert table-Cecilia had two tables set, one for dinner and one for dessert. There was champagne, cider and a champagne-pineapple concoction. I went with champagne (of course!) There was also pan dulce, candies, some taffy stuff, just insane amounts of food, and we had already had ice cream at the dinner table!!!
For the minutes leading up to midnight you need to stand on your right foot for good luck. You also, after midnight, tape a clove of garlic into your wallet to bring you money, and you are supposed to wear pink underwear for luck. Now we all have stinky wallets but we should be rolling in $$$$ (or at least pesos) by the end of the year!
The stroke of midnight! I kissed Levi first, then tradition has it that you kiss everyone else on the cheek, so we had about 14 kisses to go. This one was the best, though!
After midnight we went out into the streets where people were setting off huge fireworks displays, then we took off for Davin's party. We arrived at 2:30 in the morning, and the party was just right in the middle of happening. Only in Agrentina! By the way, it took 4 attempts to get this photo...
We then went to a pub and met up with a few other friends. Here Anna and I are taking our first picture together in 2006!!! Note her red bra, apparently she got the notice about the underwear...
We snuck one last one in at the bar before heading home around 5:30 in the morning, just in time to see the sun rise and get a call from Liz whose clock had just turned! It was SUCH a fun night!!! Feliz año nuevo!!!
